LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette police were on the scene of an early morning shooting on the city's north side Tuesday.
Police got the call around 4:30 a.m. on the 2400 block of Charles Street, near the intersection of Underwood and Erie streets.
Officers say 24-year-old Joshua D. Cole of Lafayette was shot in the shoulder. He was taken to Franciscan St. Elizabeth East hospital but his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.
Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what happened. Cole told police he was outside, but they are unsure if he was surprised by someone or if there was a confrontation.
"At night, witnesses are limited," says Sgt. Joe Clyde. "There are not as many people outside. Visibility is limited. Our ability to view the scene is also limited. It's easier to do these things in the daylight, but if it happens at night, that's the way it works out."
Sgt. Clyde adds crime scene investigators will be searching the scene for more information later Tuesday morning.
