MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Miami County Sheriff's deputies were called in to investigate a suspicious man carrying a small suitcase and kneeling in prayer at the Grissom Aeroplex around 8p.m. Thursday.
Deputies found George Doss, 47, of Kokomo standing next to a suitcase, unable to identify himself nor follow verbal commands. He was said to be making rambling statements and warned deputies they were in a "code red zone."
Members of both the Indiana State Police Explosive Ordinance Team and the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team, along with hostage negotiators, assisted with attempts to communicate with Doss.
A robotic device was eventually used to move the suitcase to a safe location. At around 2:20 a.m. Friday morning, the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team utilized a distraction device and non-lethal force to close in and take Doss into custody.
He was taken to Dukes Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation.
No explosives or other weapons were found inside the suitcase, nor were there any weapons found on Doss himself.
The Miami County Prosecutor's office will consider charges of both "disorderly conduct" and "resisting law enforcement."
