TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Battery and neglect-of-a-dependent charges have been filed against a Lafayette woman after prosecutors say she gave her 11-month-old son a broken leg.
Court documents say 19-year-old Megan Schultz's son had a spiral fracture on his right femur and torn frenulums (small folds of tissue) in his upper lip and under his tongue.
Prosecutors say interviews with the child's daycare operator and paternal grandparents revealed the injuries happened while the boy was in Schultz's care.
They say Schultz made inconsistent statements concerning the time of the injuries.
Prosecutors say doctors at Riley Hospital for Children say the injuries were the result of inflicted injury and not a jumping incident.
