TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A Tippecanoe County man was charged with child battery Monday after prosecutors said he hit a 12-year-old girl on the leg twice with a belt.
According to court documents, 31-year-old Javier Gaeta wanted the girl to clean a van on Labor Day. When she refused, he got a belt, chased her out of the living room into the front yard and then back into the house.
The girl told investigators he hit her twice with the belt on the leg, which was beginning to swell, when deputies responded Sept. 2. Her leg was still red the next day.
Gaeta told investigators he was protecting himself and only hit her because she was hitting him.
