Think Green….Think Spring!
Trees, Shrubs, Plants & Rain Barrels!

The Tippecanoe Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is providing a quality source of trees, shrubs, native plants, and rain barrels at a reasonable cost for interested landowners to use in their greening efforts.

The SWCD is now accepting orders for a variety of trees and shrubs until close of business Friday, April 30th. These trees and shrubs are decorative additions to the landscape, but also help attract wildlife. All container trees and shrubs are available in a three gallon size at a cost of $20 each. Interested individuals should contact the SWCD office or visit our website at www.tippecanoecountyswcd.org to obtain a list of species available and an order form.

Wildflowers, grasses, and sedges are also available through the SWCD. These native plants are available in a 2-3/8” pot at a cost of $2.50 each, and include varieties such as Cardinal Flower, Black Eyed Susan, Blue Flag Iris, Yellow Coneflower, Indian Grass, Little Bluestem, and Fox Sedge.

In addition, rain barrels, made from 55 gallon recycled plastic shipping containers, can be purchased year-round from the SWCD at a cost of $70.00 each. They are available in four colors: blue, black, gray, and terra cotta. Rain barrels can be used to collect water from your rooftop to help maintain your trees, shrubs, and other plants, which might save you some “green” on your water bill.

Orders can be picked up on Saturday, May 8th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the SWCD office located at 1812 Troxel Drive, Lafayette. You might also keep in mind that “green” gifts are perfect for Mother’s Day!

In addition to the SWCD, there are many other great sources for high quality trees, shrubs, and native plants, such as local nurseries and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry which has small bare root seedlings available. Rain barrels are also available at a variety of places. Regardless of where you purchase your “green”, make an investment in the future today, and order some trees, shrubs, and rain barrels for your yard now!

Order now as various items are limited in availability!
