(CNN) - The father of the bride might be getting buyer's remorse. These days, the average wedding costs about $27,000.

That covers the bride, the groom, and an average of 138 guests, according to a compilation of wedding statistics from Pew Research, The Wedding Report, and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Couples usually get married in churches and synagogues, but other popular spots are public gardens, private homes, beaches, and country clubs.

The average price of the honeymoon is a little easier to deal with at about $3,600.

As for paying for the wedding itself, the couple pays at least part of the bill about 17 percent of the time.
