(LIN) -- Two heavy hitters that were expected to scramble the 2012 field have declared their intentions to stay on the sidelines in this week in political quotes.
Election 2012
"Now is not my time." -- Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., announcing he will not join the Republican 2012 field of presidential candidates.
"After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for president of the United States." -- Former Gov. and 2008 nominee for vice president, Sarah Palin, R-Alaska, ending speculation she would join the 2012 race.
Wall Street Protests
"Don't be jealous, don't be envious. I don't have much patience for someone who does not want to achieve their American dream the old-fashioned way." -- 2012 Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, after saying the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters are anti-American and anti-capitalistic.
"I'm just trying to occupy the White House." -- 2012 presidential candidate and former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., on his take of the Wall St. protests.
"American Jobs Act"
"There's the good, the bad and the ugly. The ugly was $447 billion." -- Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said of President Barack Obama’s jobs bill price tag.
"What's the problem? Do they not have the time? They just had a week off. Is it inconvenient?" -- Obama, in comments while in Texas to deliver his most caustic challenge yet to House Republicans who have not allowed a vote on his jobs bill unveiled nearly a month ago.
International
"Those nations are standing on the wrong side of history. They are protecting the wrong side in this dispute. And the Syrian people are not likely to forget that, and nor should they."-- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, after the Obama administration stepped up its criticism of China and Russia on Wednesday, for vetoing a U.N. Security Council resolution condemning Syria for its brutal crackdown on pro-reform protesters.
Health Care
"In other words, they don't just want to go after the last 18 months, they want to roll back the last 50 years in progress women have made in comprehensive health care in America."-- Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, said of the Republican Party’s attempt to rollback the 2012 health care reform bill.
"What's Gov. Tomblin doing about Obamacare? Absolutely nothing." -- A TV ad by gubernatorial candidate Bill Maloney, R-W.Va., against incumbent Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, W.Va., in the final weeks of the gubernatorial campaign. Tomblin won in a close race.
Steve Jobs
"There may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented." -- Obama, on the death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
"Steve Jobs was a California icon who embodied Silicon Valley's entrepreneurial spirit of creativity and optimism. By revolutionizing communications, he touched the lives of billions of people around the world." -- U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.
"I believe history will remember Steve Jobs as one of the greatest innovators of all time, the Thomas Edison of the 21st Century. And I will also remember him as someone who had my total admiration for his unwavering dedication to improving mankind." -- U.S. Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Calif.
