WASHINGTON (CNN) - William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton served as the 42nd president.

He was born August 19th, 1946. In 1975, he married Hillary Rodham, a fellow law student from Yale.

In 1978, Clinton was elected governor of Arkansas at the age of 32. He lost his bid for re-election in 1980 to Frank White, but won the governor's seat in 1982, '84, '86 and '90.

Despite being impeached by the House in 1998 over a sex scandal involving White House intern Monica Lewinsky, he remained president.

Economically, the U.S. prospered during Clinton's tenure.
