WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) - Purdue University is reviewing its efforts to educate students about alcohol after a deadly off-campus shooting over the weekend. Two Purdue students –- one from Carmel -– were involved in the shooting and have bonded out after being arrested.
The shooting leaves Corey Lynch, a senior at Purdue, wondering what his future holds.
Lynch, an organizational leadership and supervision major, and a roommate from Fort Wayne told police they had been drinking at their apartment and, as a joke, pointed a gun at a 21-year-old man named Landon Siela.
Lynch’s gun went off, hitting Siela in the throat and
killing him.
Purdue University already educates students both on and off
campus about alcohol. Tammy Loew, the woman who heads up that
effort, said her office continually reviews those efforts. She said
the shooting death will prompt another review.
The Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office is deciding how
to proceed on this case.
Both Corey Lynch of Carmel and the other student involved in
the shooting, William Calderon of Forty Wayne, are free on bond.
24-Hour News 8 tried to speak with Lynch Monday, but was
unable to contact him.
