PITTSBURGH, Pa. (CNN/WTAE) - Driving in Pittsburgh, you might run into the Ecto-1. It's a recreation of the car from the 1984 movie "Ghostbusters" that has turned into a fundraising phenomenon.
Ligonier Township police officer Bob Shapiro revamped the old Cadillac hearse as a Halloween stunt.
Since then, he's teamed up with an area fan group called Steel City Ghostbusters to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.
Shapiro says he has even been requested for birthday parties.
"The car was a '67 with 50,000 miles on it. The engine was great. The transmission was great. Everything else just needed work. We thought, 'How hard could it be to sand it down, repaint it, and make it look like this?' People instantly see this driving down the road, and it's not just the car. They see everything on top and say that's the Ecto-1," said Shapiro.
