TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Emergency sirens were sounded this morning and this evening as tests. Tippecanoe County Emergency Management Director Mark Kirby said communication this evening from the National Weather Service through the phone tree was quick and flawless.
During this morning's test there was a 12 minute delay. Also during the morning test, 11 out of 71 sirens failed in Tippecanoe County.
Kirby said for the evening tests, volunteers sat underneath sirens to take a second look.
"I'm happy to say six of those sirens functioned perfectly. The one at McCutcheon High School did not. We had checked the breakers on that earlier in the day to make sure those had not been shut off," Kirby explained. "They were on so it did have power. We obviously have a problem there. Six of the other sirens did work properly. The only ones we had reported problems with, we will be checking those more thoroughly in the coming days."
The following sirens had volunteers monitoring them on site and functioned properly during the evening test:
Kirby recommends everyone get a weather radio for their home. It will notify you immediately of threatening weather.
