INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Dispatchers say a 16-year-old girl was seriously injured when an SUV crashed into a home in the 5500 block of North Drexel Avenue on Monday night. The driver was arrested on drug charges.
Just after 10 p.m. Monday, according to police reports, a westbound GMC Envoy ran off the road on 56th Street, drove through a yard and damaged a mailbox, veered out onto Drexel Avenue, then back off the roadway and into the home.
According to police reports, the teen, who was sitting on a couch inside the house with her mother, suffered a broken leg and cuts to her face. The mother wasn’t hurt.
Devon Sylvester, 21, Zionsville, was arrested and preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing an accident with serious bodily injury, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
According to the police report, police found a baggie of suspected heroin, four syringes and a metal spoon and other paraphernalia collected in a small eyeglass case Sylvester had with him.
Police also said Sylvester told them he had taken heroin and cocaine about an hour before the crash. He consented to having his blood drawn for testing, which was done at Wishard Memorial Hospital after Sylvester was arrested, according to police reports.
