WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue senior Ariel Turner was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts against No. 1 Penn State and No. 19 Ohio State last week.
Turner paced the Boilermakers with 3.43 kills, 3.29 digs and 1.00 blocks per set, while also making good on 93 percent of her serve reception opportunities.
Against Penn State, the senior managed eight kills to go with a team-leading 11 digs. Against Ohio State, Turner posted a 16-kill, 12 dig double double, her ninth of the season, as well as a season-best five blocks. She racked up five kills in Purdue's come-from-behind 25-23 win in Set 4, including four putaways in the final six points as Purdue overcame a 21-19 deficit.
The Defensive Player of the Week honor is the first for Turner and marks her ninth career player of the week accolade. Turner was Big Ten Player of the Week on Oct. 1. Carly Cramer was Purdue's last defensive player of the week selection, earning the nod on Sept. 24.
The Boilermakers face off against Indiana at 8 pm Tuesday.
