OXFORD, Ind. (WLFI) - Benton Central's Caitlyn Tolen verbally committed to play basketball at IUPUI this weekend. She chose the Jaguars over Texas Tech and Indiana.

"They have great academics, which has always been my number one priority," said Tolen. "I love the coaching staff and players and I feel that I fit in with their type of play very well. I am super excited to see what the future holds for me as a Lady Jag. I fully believe in Coach P and think IUPUI is a program on the rise. I also really like that IUPUI is close to home so my family and friends can still be able so see me play."

"Caitlyn has been a special player to coach," said Benton Central head coach David Baxter. "She is a great example for younger players in the program to follow. Caitlyn's dedication to the hard work of developing her basketball skills and fundamentals along with her determination to be the best she can be to help her team is what sets her apart from her peers across the state. She is a rare talent who excels in critical situations and makes clutch plays under pressure in big moments of games. Caitlyn is stat-stuffer extraordinaire. She can do anything her team needs her to do to earn a victory. Caitlyn will go down as the best all-around and versatile player in Lady Bison basketball history."

Tolen is the girls' all-time leading scorer in Bison history. She reached that record on Tuesday against Central Catholic. She scored 23 points to claim the top spot.

Tolen is averaging 24.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 4.6 steals per game this season.

Tolen has helped lead the Bison to a 16-3 record this season. Benton Central returns to action on Tuesday at Harrison. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
