STARKVILLE, Ms. (WLFI) - Former Central Catholic high school and Minnesota Golden Gophers head coach Tim Brewster is headed to Mississippi State. Brewster is expected to join the Mississippi State staff as the wide receivers coach.
Brewster, who was fired from Minnesota in 2010, replaces Angelo Mirando, who resigned suddenly on Sunday.
A statement from the school said that Mirando's resignation was due to "unforeseen personal issues."
As an assistant coach Brewster was a part of Mack Brown’s staffs at North Carolina and Texas from 1989-2001. Brewster also served as an assistant coach in the NFL from 2002-06 in San Diego and Denver before he was hired as Minnesota’s head coach in 2007.
Tim Brewster is always proud to hear what Central Catholic has accomplished and remains a LCC supporter.
“It’s a step along the way that you will never ever forget. I was so fortunate to get the head coaching job at Lafayette Central Catholic. I could still be there today and be very happy. I taught government, I taught economics, I lined the field and my wife was the cheerleading coach. You talk about a grass roots experience as a head football coach, every coach along the way should enjoy the experience like the one I had at CC,” said Brewster.
