LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Central Catholic girl’s basketball team will close out the regular season this week and the Knights are gearing up for another deep IHSAA Tournament run.

A year ago, the Knights won just 3 regular season games before advancing to Regionals.

However, this season has been a different story. From late November to early January the Lady Knights were unstoppable. Winning 10 straight games and taking out last season's frustration on opponent after opponent. A surprising streak for outsiders, inside McHale Gymnasium it's a different story.

“A lot of teams didn't take us seriously at the beginning of the season from our rough record from last year but this year I think we have made quite the statement that we are not the same team at all and we need to be respected,” said junior forward Emily Denhart.

“Winning so many games and like playing so well from last year, we didn't win as many games last year but I don't think we are as close of a team as we are this year. Being close as a team this year has really brought us together which I think has really helped us win games,” said junior guard Sarah Roswarski.

First year head coach Craig DeVault leans heavily on his upper-classmen, A group that is used to winning at CC.

“They know how to play team basketball and how you win basketball games is playing team basketball. You have to have a solid point guard, you need two or three girls who can step in and shoot the ball and have the other players as role players and all these girls have bought in to what we want and we have been on a role since,” said Central Catholic head coach Craig Devault.

The Class A Rossville sectional is set to begin on February 5, 2013.
