CHAMPAIGN, Ill (WFLI) - Despite the firing of Danny Hope as Purdue head coach last month, Champaign (Ill.) High School of Saint More John Strauser signed his letter of intent on Friday to play football for the Boilers in 2013.

Strauser will join the Boilermakers in January and is listed as an athlete. He is 6'4" and 235 pounds and played on the defensive line in high school.

Strauser said he is excited to play for new Boiler head coach, Darrell Hazell.

"It has been a rollercoaster ride. I had everything planned out in the summer and then with and then with Coach Hope being relieved, it created some chaos there," said Strauser.  "Bringing in Coach Hazell is exciting. We have the bowl coming up for the current players right now and we can build on that and that is the exciting part for me. To be able to join up next semester with a team that is already a bowl team and learn from them and also Coach Hazell."

Purdue will play in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on January 1. Kick-off is set for 12 pm ET.
