CHICAGO, Ill. (WLFI) - No less than seven NFL teams have fired their head coach on Monday.
Among those let go is Chicago Bears' head coach Lovie Smith according to multiple reports.
The Bears finished the regular season 10-6 but failed to make the playoffs for the fifth time in the past six seasons. The Bears began the season with a record of 7-1 but ended with just three wins and five losses.
Smith compiled an 81-63 overall record and led the Bears to a 3-3 record in the playoffs. The Bears struggled on offense this season and was ranked just 28th overall.
"I take a lot of pride in the way I play and offensively we didn't show up the last four years for him," said Bears' quarterback Jay Cutler. "A lot of that blame is going to be on me. As soon as I heard he was fired there was instant regret on what we could have done and what we should have done offensively."
Chicago now begins the search for a new head coach.
