WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue baseball’s head coach Doug Schreiber has been chosen as one of the seven finalists for College Baseball Insider’s National Coach of the Year.
The winner will be announced Thursday, July 5. The other finalists include Arizona’s Andy Lopez, Baylor’s Steve Smith, Florida State’s Mike Martin, Kent State’s Scott Stricklin, South Carolina’s Ray Tanner and Stony Brook’s Matt Senk. All seven skippers led their teams to the NCAA Tournament as part of historic seasons.
Schreiber was Purdue baseball’s first winner of Big Ten Coach of the Year honors after leading the Boilers to a program-record 45 victories and Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles.
Also, left-handed Purdue alumni Andy Loomis and Blake Mascarello both recently received promotions in Minor League Baseball.
