Robert Marve talks about his return to the field

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Purdue football team will look to bounce back this week against Eastern Michigan and they will do so without quarterback Robert Marve who has suffered his third ACL tear.

Marve completed 11 of 18 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown against Notre Dame this past Saturday before being injured in the 4th quarter.

Marve first injured the knee in the summer of 2009 after he transferred from Miami. He started the first four games of 2010 at Purdue before re-injuring the knee and missing the rest of the season.

This season, Marve started against Eastern Kentucky in the season opener and passed for a career-high 295 yards and three touchdowns in a 48-6 win.

Unlike the two previous ACL injuries, Marve hopes to be back in uniform following the Boilermakers bye week when they take on Marshall on September 29th.

Following practice on Tuesday Robert Marve made himself available to the media and talked about his injury and what his future as a Boilermaker entails.

“I want to come back, I want to come back so bad and do anything possible. I know that it will be a blessing to. Hopefully I will be back quicker then everyone thinks,” said senior Robert Marve.

While it is a little surprising that his goal is to be dressed for Purdue’s home game against Marshall, it’s not out of the question considering how well he knows his body and more importantly, his knee.

“It's not something that hasn't been done before, it has been done and my leg feels good. I can go out there and do a five step drop right now and you wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference other then I have a brace on my leg,” said Marve.

As for what’s next, his objective at this point is to decrease the swelling in the joint so that he can begin rehabbing and regaining his strength.

“It's when the body starts trusting itself again and I think we are in a good place right now. I have to get back to a place where I feel comfortable and it’s ready to go. I’m not going to tell myself that I’m ready to go if I’m not. I know my body better then anyone, so when I feel like I can go out there and help the team then I will,” said Marve.
