Raiders and Mavericks playing for sword

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - One of the games that we'll be at during our week four edition of the Friday Night Frenzy is the battle for The Sword, where Tippecanoe County rivals McCutcheon and Harrison will square off at the Raiders A.J. Rickard Field.

“We want it real bad, since I'm new all I hear about is how big the rivalry is between us and McCutcheon and how they have the sword. Friday night we just have to bring it and bring it back. That is all that we have been talking about this whole week. It would mean a lot to us because our senior class hasn't won a game yet and so for us to get the sword back this year would mean a lot to our school and to get our first win and it would feel good,” said junior Arrione Cook.

“The seniors talk about it so much that it is one of the biggest games of the year. I heard about that sword and just being new here and all and I'm pretty excited for it. In school today I was really jumpy and I'm really ready for this game. I'm a raider now so what is really important right now is that sword,” said junior Nick Torres.

As for the Mavericks, bouncing back from last week's six-point loss to the Bronchos will be a challenge. But it's a task that excites them, especially when it comes on a night when The Sword is at stake.  

“Well, we need this win for one. I mean, we want it more then anything for our seniors and they want to go out knowing they beat our rivals. Getting that win for everybody, our whole community would be very big. Especially winning 3 out of the last 4 and knowing that this past couples of years that we have been on top the most. We know it's going to be a brawl, it's going to be a fun game and hopefully we come out on top,” said junior Nate Deno.

“Just knowing that we can compete and we can win some games that it's huge that we keep the sword here. It would be to make our whole school proud, our administrators proud, to make the community at McCutcheon pretty proud that we have the sword still,” said senior Josh Coston.
