Purdue's losing streak continues as Penn State wins 34-9

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - For the fourth consecutive week the Purdue football team scored first and then stumbled as Penn State scored 34 unanswered points on it's way to a 34-9 victory at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Even Robert Marve starting at quarterback couldn’t help the Boilermakers hold onto momentum from their opening drive of the game. Akeem Hunt began the game with a 47 yard return. On the Boilermakers first play, Akeem Shavers ripped off a 37 yard run which led to a 21-yard field goal by Sam McCartney and gave the Boilermakers a 3-0 lead.

From that point, it was all Penn State. The Boilermakers didn’t respond until they scored a touchdown on the final play of the game as Caleb TerBush connected with Antavian Edison as time expired.

“We took the field today believing we could win. Even though we've had some lopsided losses, I don't think our football team has quit. We just haven't executed well enough to put ourselves in position to win. And here in some big ball games,” said Purdue head coach Danny Hope.

Matthew McGloin passed for 321 yards and two touchdowns while Brandon Moseby-Felder had six catches for 129 yards, Zach Zwinak ran for 134 yards and Michael Zordich ran for two touchdowns for the Nittany Lions. Penn State bounced back in a big way from a home loss against Ohio State last Saturday in Happy Valley.

Robert Marve finished the day 22 of 39 for 138 yards passing while TerBush added 155 yards on 20 attempts.

“I've got to look and see what happened. I'm just frustrated and I want to do whatever I can do to help. I want to help, and be a solution, not a problem,” said Purdue senior quarterback Robert Marve.

Purdue is now 3-6 over and winless in five Big Ten games. The Boilermakers have lost their three Big Ten home games by a combined score of 116-36.
