WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue's wrestling team won their third straight match on Sunday for the first time since 2003 when No. 18 Purdue beat No. 17 Michigan 19-18.
“We set some goals for the second half of the Big Ten season, and we’ve followed that path to success,” said Purdue head coach Scott Hinkel. “We went out today, competed hard and had each other’s backs, and that allowed us to come away with a victory. I’m proud of our guys.”
Purdue sophomore and former Delphi Oracle, Braden Atwood picked up a big win for Purdue at 197 pounds. Atwood won by a fall against Michigan's Maxwell Huntley.
The Boilers picked up their first win over Michigan since 1998.
Purdue improves to 13 and 5 overall and 4 and 3 in Big Ten competition.
The Boilermakers take aim at their fifth Big Ten victory and a coveted point in the Crimson and Gold Cup standings as they host Indiana on Monday, Feb. 11, at 6:30 pm in Holloway Gymnasium.
