Purdue women's golf to host the Lady Puerto Rico Challenge

RIO GRANDE, P.R. (WLFI) - The Purdue women's golf team is playing host to the 10th annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R., at the Rio Mar Beach Resort.

The tournament begins Sunday, Feb. 12 and concludes Tuesday, Feb. 14 on the River Course of the Rio Mar Resort.

The course is set up as a par-72, 6,191-yard venue for the three-day, 54-hole event.

The field includes 15 teams, all in the top 100 of the most recent Golfweek rankings, including 12 in the top 50. Foursomes will tee off tomorrow at 7 a.m. ET in a shotgun start and the 32nd-ranked Boilermakers are paired with No. 6 LSU, No. 8 Oklahoma State and No. 11 Georgia.

No. 17 North Carolina State, No. 33 Iowa State, No. 37 Northwestern and No. 45 Arkansas will be paired together, while No. 28 Texas Tech, No. 36 TCU, No. 44 Kent State and No. 48 Michigan State make up another group. No. 69 Nebraska, No. 74 Penn State and No. 96 SMU make up the final group, along with nine players who are competing as individuals: Kent State's Erin Hawe, Northwestern's Anne Ormson, North Carolina State's Lindsay McGetrick, Georgia;s Ameila Hill, Michigan's Caramia Sitompul, Penn State's Catherine Herrera, LSU's Katrina Hegge, Purdue freshman Vicky Scherer and Katie Keiser from Nebraska.

Representing Purdue are juniors Laura Gonzalez-Escallon, Paula Reto and Kishi Sinha along with freshmen Kendall Dusenberry and Aurora Kan.

Reto is the highest ranked individual for the Boilermakers at No. 17 in the Golfweek standings and she is coming off a tournament victory last October at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. Gonzalez-Escallon is ranked No. 39, and has won several tournaments in her career, including the 2010 Big Ten medal as a freshman.

Dusenberry and Scherer just joined the Purdue women's golf team in January and will be competing in their first collegiate tournament.
