WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue women's basketball team begins the season with a 3-0 record after their 59-45 win over Bowling Green on Monday night at Mackey Arena.

The No. 14 Boilers struggled shooting on the night, shooting 39 percent from the floor. However, Purdue's defense played great as they held Bolwing Green to just 27 percent shooting from the floor.

"I was just really pleased with our overall effort on the defensive end," said Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp. "I thought on the offensive end we had some shots that if we would have made early in the game we would have put it away a little bit earlier but that is why you play the game to get better.

Purdue's Drey Mingo and Sam Ostarello crashed the glass in the win. Both Mingo and Ostarello pulled down 12 rebounds each. Ostarello added four blocks to tie a career high.

"We established an inside game early and just continued with that the second half," said Ostarello. "We missed some easy shots but I felt like we kept going for our own rebounds and boarding really hard."

Mingo led the Boilers in scoring with 13 points. Ostarello and Chantel Poston each added 12 points. Those three players were the only ones to score in double figures.

Purdue now travels to the Virgin Islands to play in a tournament. The Boilers first game is against Marist on November 22. Tip-off is set for 8:15 pm.
