WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue's volleyball team hoped to begin the Big Ten season with a 4-0 record but in order to do that, the Boilers had to pick up a win over Illinois on Saturday at Belin Court.

Purdue jumped out to an early lead with a 25-20 first set win. However, from that point the match would end up going back and forth. Illinois took set two 25-22. Purdue won set three 25-20. Illinois then routed the Boilers in set four 25-10 but in set five Purdue won 15-7 to claim the victory over the 21st ranked fighting Illini.

Purdue's Ariel Turner played a big role in the win with 25 kills. Current Big Ten Freshman of the Week, Annie Drews had 13 kills. Former McCutcheon Maverick and Purdue freshman, Amanda Neill made her second start and finished the match with 11 digs. Rachel Davis added 50 assists.

The Boilers are currently ranked 13th in the nation and they now improve to 13-2 on the season and 4-0 in Big Ten play. Purdue will face Nebraska on October 5 at Belin Court. The game is set to begin at 8 pm.
