WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Purdue men’s basketball team has agreed to take part in the 2014 EA Sports Maui Invitational, which annually showcases the best in college basketball by featuring some of the biggest names in the sport.
In total, participating schools in the 2014 EA Sports Maui Invitational have earned 162 NCAA Tournament berths, made 10 Final Four appearances and won 136 conference championships.
In addition to the Boilermakers, the 2014 field will feature Arizona, BYU, Chaminade, Kansas State, Missouri, Pittsburgh and San Diego State.
The 2014 EA Sports Maui Invitational will mark Purdue’s third appearance in the event.
“The 2014 field promises to be a great one. With accomplished programs in Arizona, Missouri, Purdue and Pittsburgh, and emerging teams in BYU and San Diego State, the 2014 tournament will feature fierce competition,” Tournament Chairman Dave Odom said. “This is one of the deepest and most balanced fields we’ve ever had.”
In all, 93 schools representing 21 conferences and 39 states have competed in the EA Sports Maui Invitational, with participants having won 63 of 74 NCAA championships and claimed 59 of 74 national runners-up spots, while comprising 243 of 296 Final Four teams.
The four Division I teams that will participate in the 2014 opening games and regional games will be announced at a later date.
