WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue men's basketball team bounced back in a big way on Sunday with a 74-43 rout of Northwestern.
Purdue led 40-25 at halftime. The Boilers continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 34-18.
The Boilermakers entered this game on a three game losing streak, with double digit losses to Michigan State, Illinois, and Indiana.
Purdue made a statement with their 31 point win. Purdue out-rebounded Northwestern 48-23. The Boilermakers defense also played a key role in the win. Purdue held Northwestern to 28 percent shooting for the game. None of Northwestern's players scored in double figures.
Purdue was led in scoring by Terone Johnson with 22 points. Purdue's D.J. Byrd added 13 points. Purdue's Ronnie Johnson and Rapheal Davis each added 10 points.
Purdue improves to 13-14 on the season and 6-8 in Big Ten play. The Boilermakers return to action on February 27, when they travel to face Iowa. Tip-off is set for 8:30 pm.
