WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue men's basketball beat Northwestern 87-77 at Mackey Arena on Sunday. Purdue led at halftime 31 to 26.
The Boilers out rebounded Northwestern 40-28 in the win. Purdue also made 72 percent of their free throws. Robbie Hummel made 12 of his 14 free throw attempts. Purdue only turned the ball over 5 times in the game.
Purdue was led in scoring by Robbie Hummel with 27 points. D.J. Byrd added 20 points. Lewis Jackson came off the bench and scored 5 points and dished out 8 assists.
Northwestern was led in scoring by John Shurna with 30 points.
Purdue had lost 4 of their last 5 games coming into this game against Northwestern.
The Boilers improved to 16-9 on the season and 6-6 in Big Ten play with the win. Northwestern drops to 15-9 overall and 5-7 in Big Ten play.
Purdue returns to action on Wednesday against Illinois. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m.
