Purdue finishes seventh at Lady Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, P.R. - The ninth-ranked Purdue women's golf team played host to the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R. for the 11th time and shot a 301 in the final round to finish in seventh place with a total score of 904.

No. 6 Alabama, the defending national champions, won the Lady Puerto Rico Classic by 13 strokes with a team total of 871. The Crimson Tide and Texas Tech shot the low round of the tournament on Tuesday, carding 288 to close things out. No. 13 Arkansas finished in second place with an 884 and Arkansas junior Emily Tubert won the individual title by one stroke with a three-under par 213.

No. 20 Texas Tech finished third at 885. Red Raiders head coach JoJo Robertson is a former Boilermaker assistant coach and the sister of Purdue associate head coach Greg Robertson.

Purdue senior Paula Reto was the top finisher for the Boilermakers for the fourth time this season. Reto is ranked No. 28 as an individual by Golfweek and finished in fourth place by firing a 70 for the second day in a row. The Cape Town, South Africa, native carded a one-under par 215 for the tournament.

Classmate and reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Laura Gonzalez-Escallon finished tied for 38th with a three-round total of 230. The La Hulpe, Belgium, native carded a 76 on Tuesday. Senior Kishi Sinha shot a 77 in the final round for a total of 232 to tie for 45th, while freshman Margaux Vanmol had a tough finishing day with an 84 to tie for 50th at 233. She was tied for 19th after the second round.

Sophomore Aurora Kan tied for 64th with a 236 total. She carded a 78 on the final day. Brooke Beegle was competing as an individual and tied for 45th with a 232. The Fishers, Ind., native shot a 79 for the second-consecutive day.

The River Course at the Rio Mar Beach Resort, a par-72, 6,191-yard venue was the site of the three-day, 54-hole event.

Purdue returns to action at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on April 24 to 26 in New Orleans, La.
