WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Purdue men's basketball team falls 76-62 to Michigan State at Mackey Arena on Sunday afternoon. Robbie Hummel led the Boilermakers with 24 points and 15 rebounds in 39 minutes of action.

It was a tale of two halves for the Boilermakers Sunday against the Spartans. Emotion was running high on Keady Court in the first half.

At one point, Ryne Smith's neck was bleeding and Anthony Johnson and Michigan State's Branden Dawson were talking some serious trash.

As the Boilers headed to the locker room at halftime, Robbie Hummel had 18 points and Purdue led 38-35. The Boilermakers shot 46.7% from the field on 14-30 shooting and 3-9 from 3-point range (33.3%).

However, the second half was a different story for Matt Painter and the Boilermakers. Purdue started the second half 1-22 from the field and found themselves trailing 53-44 with 10:32 remaining.

Michigan State extended their lead to 62-46 before freshman Anthony Johnson gave Purdue a much need lift. Johnson scored 8 straight points for Purdue and Michigan State's lead was cut to 62-54.

That was as close as Purdue would get the rest of the way. Senior point guard Lewis Jackson played 39 minutes and scored 15 points and dished out 5 assists. Senior guard Ryne Smith added 10 points on 3-11 shooting while Anthony Johnson finished with 10 points. Purdue shot 8-35 (22.9%) from the field in the second half and finished the game shooting 22-65 (33.8%).

Michigan State outscored Purdue 41-24 in the second half, in large part to the Spartans out scoring Purdue 36-10 in the paint. Senior Draymond Green scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Michigan State.

Purdue is now 17-10 overall and 7-7 in the Big Ten. Michigan State is now in sole possession of first place in the Big Ten as they improved their record to 22-5 and 11-3 in conference play.

The Boilermakers return to action on Wednesday when they welcome Nebraska to Mackey Arena. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 ET and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
