COLUMBUS, OH. (WLFI) - The Purdue football team came into Saturday’s game at Ohio State looking for their first road win against the Buckeyes since 1988. Leading 22-14 with 47 seconds remaining the Boilermakers could not hold on as Ohio State tied the game with three seconds remaining and won in overtime 29-22.

After Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller left the game late in the 3 rd quarter, the Buckeyes turned to backup Kenny Guiton and he delivered.

Guiton came off the bench to lead touchdown drives in the final minute of regulation and in overtime, with Carlos Hyde scoring on a 1-yard run to clinch No. 7 Ohio State's victory.

“It's always a tough loss, and whether it is close or not we just came out swinging. And at the end of the day that is all we can do,” said outside linebacker Robert Maci.

Guiton, who was inserted when Miller went out with a head injury, hit Chris Fields on a 2-yard touchdown pass with 3 seconds remaining. Guiton then found freshman Jeff Heuerman on the two point conversion pass to tie the game at 22.

Hyde scored on a short plunge for Ohio State before Purdue's Caleb TerBush, who had two TD passes, misfired on four straight passes in the overtime.

Purdue got off to a great start and played well all afternoon as TerBush put the Boilermakers out front first on an 83 yard touchdown pass to Akeem Shavers on the first play from scrimmage.

Terbush later connected on a 31 yard pass to Gary Bush in the third quarter for his second touchdown pass. Akeem Hunt added a 100-yard kickoff return for the Boilermakers. Purdue also picked up a safety when Ohio State was called for an illegal block in the end zone in the fourth quarter.

“Our football team is a long ways away from giving up. We are going to have a great season and a great team when it is all said and done. We are going to be very proud of ourselves,” said Purdue head coach Danny Hope.

Purdue returns to action next Saturday as they head to Minneapolis, MN to take on the Golden Gophers. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
