BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WLFI) - Senior guard Jasmine McGhee scored 26 points, including the game-winning jumper with time expiring, as Indiana knocked off No. 22 Purdue 62-61 Wednesday night.
When Indiana needed someone to step up and take the game over in the closing minutes they looked to a senior and she did not disappoint.
McGhee hit two free throws with 1:14 remaining, snapping a run of seven straight points by Purdue and giving the Hoosiers a 60-59 lead.
A defensive stop by Purdue would give the Boilermakers a chance to take the lead with under 30 seconds to play. Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp would call a timeout to set up a play and the Boilermakers would capitalize.
A basket by KK Houser put the Boilermakers back on top 61-60 with 12 seconds left before Indiana called timeout and got the ball to McGhee, whose jumper sealed the victory and snapped a 8-game series losing streak for the Hoosiers against the Boilermakers.
Aulani Sinclair added 16 points and Sasha Chaplin had 10 for Indiana.
Purdue has dropped two straight after falling to Iowa 72-52 on Sunday.
Taylor Manuel led the old gold and black with 16 points while KK Houser finished with 12 and Drey Mingo added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Purdue will return to action on Monday as the Boilermakers (19-7, 8-5 Big Ten) will travel to Minnesota to face the Golden Gophers.
With a win, Purdue will achieve a 20-win season for the 21st time in school history, the fifth time under head coach Sharon Versyp and the third year in a row.
