WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue men's basketball team will continue its season. The Boilermakers accepted the invitation to play in the College Basketball Invitational.

Purdue faces Western Illinois at Mackey Arena on Wednesday, March 20. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

This year’s selection marks the Boilers’ first appearance in the event, which is in its sixth year of existence. Purdue is the first Big Ten team to ever play in the invitational.

“We’re happy for the chance to continue our season and excited that the Gazelle Group afforded us this opportunity,” Purdue head coach Matt Painter said. “I’m confident that this will be a positive step for the future of our program.”

The Boilermakers are 15-17 on the season. Purdue fell in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament to Nebraska 57-55.

Western Illinois is 22-8 on the season. They are 13-3 in Summit League play.

If Purdue beats Western Illinois, the Boilers will face the winner of the game between Vermont and Santa Clara on Monday, March 25.

Tickets will go on sale to John Purdue Club members at 9 a.m. EST and to the general public at noon EST on Monday through the Purdue Athletic Ticket Office.
