WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Former Purdue baseball player, Kevin Plawecki, added two more All-America awards to his long list of honors from Purdue baseball’s 2012 Big Ten championship season. He is now a three-time All-America honoree this spring.
Plawecki was named Second Team All-America by Baseball America and Third Team All-America by the America Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). He was the lone catcher recognized on the specific team in both instances. Last month, the junior was also named Second Team All-America by Collegiate Baseball.
On June 4, Plawecki was selected 35th overall in Compensation Round A by the New York Mets in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. He chose to sign with the Mets and forego his final season of college eligibility. He was assigned to the Brooklyn Cyclones of the New York-Penn League. He was the third-earliest draftee in program history and the first of a program-record seven Boilers selected in the Draft this season.
Plawecki is the first player in program history to be a three-time All-American in the same season. Going back to 2010, he was also named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
