WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - UPDATE: Purdue has announced that the university has agreed to a new eight-year-contract with Matt Painter.
The university has not disclosed the terms of the contract.
NewsChannel 18's Mike Cleff and Gold&Black.com's Alan Karpick said that they believe compensation changes for assistant coaches are possible as well.
The university stated that Painter is still in Florida.
Purdue will hold a press conference Thursday at 11:00 a.m on Keady Court in Mackey Arena, according to Assistant Athletics Director Tom Schott.
President France Córdova released the following statement to NewsChannel 18:
"I am thrilled, like thousands of Boilermakers everywhere, that Coach Painter has decided to stay at Purdue. It’s clear that Coach Painter is looked up to as a role model by all our students. He’s brought passion, energy and a winning way to Purdue basketball. My thanks to Morgan Burke and everyone who insured that Matt is staying. And a special thanks to the fan base: Matt could hear your cheering for him across the country."
