SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Boston Celtics beat the Utah Jazz 110-107 last night to close out a five-game road trip. Paul Pierce scored 26 points, including seven straight in overtime. He had a chance to win it in regulation, but his 19-footer at the buzzer rimmed out.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays beat a Boston Red Sox split squad 6-3 yesterday. Dustin Pedroia homered in the first off Rays starter Alex Cobb. Newly-acquired Mike Carp had a RBI double in his debut for the Red Sox. Alfredo Aceves started and worked two innings for Boston, allowing a two-run double to Yunel Escobar.

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) — A Boston Red Sox split squad beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 yesterday. Knuckleballer Steven Wright gave up two hits and struck out three over two scoreless innings. Red Sox manager John Farrell — who moved from Toronto to Boston during the offseason after managing the Blue Jays in 2011 and '12 — was booed by fans when his name was announced during the pregame starting lineup introductions.

UNDATED (AP) — A person familiar with the contract tells The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that Tom Brady has received a three-year extension from the New England Patriots worth about $27 million. The 35-year-old two-time league MVP was signed through 2014.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — The WNBA's Connecticut Sun has signed British Olympian Johannah Leedham. The team — which drafted Leedham almost three years ago — did not disclose details of the rookie contract yesterday.

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Central Connecticut State beat Quinnipiac 67-65 last night. Kyle Vinales hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 6 seconds showing to lift CCSU to victory. Vinales finished with 17 points, Malcolm McMillan added 16 and Joe Efese 14 for the Blue Devils.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) — Bryant beat Sacred Heart 84-68 last night. Dynami Sparks scored 25 points and Frankie Dobbs and Alex Francis added double-doubles for Bryant. Shane Gibson scored 30 points for Sacred Heart. He became the 10th player in program history and fifth in NEC history to reach 2,000 points.

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — Next year's NCAA Division III men's college ice hockey championships will be held in Lewiston, Maine The games will be held March 21st-22nd, 2014, at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee and hosted by Bowdoin College. It's the first time the finals have been held in Maine.

HANOVER, N.H. (AP) — Olympic gold medalist and World Cup soccer star Julie Foudy is speaking at New Hampshire's Dartmouth College tonight in celebration of the 40th anniversaries of coeducation at the school and the passing of Title IX. Foudy is an advocate for Title IX, a law passed in 1972 that requires gender equality for any education program or activity receiving federal funding.
