Michigan outlasts Purdue 68-53 at Crisler Center

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - With a number one ranking up for grabs the Michigan Wolverines were more aggressive in all phases of the game. The maze and blue trailed by one point at the half but used a 13-2 run in the second half to knock off Purdue 68-53.

Trey Burke led the way with 15 points and eight assists and Tim Hardaway added 13 points. The second-ranked Wolverines shut down the Boilermakers after Purdue had made seven 3-pointers in the first half.

A key contributor in that run was Glenn Robinson III who was playing his first game against Purdue. A school he is very familiar with considering its where his father played. He finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Purdue trailed by 11 before going on a brief run to make it 53-48. Michigan freshman Nik Stauskas answered with a 3-pointer from the left wing that spoiled the Boilermakers momentum.

The Wolverines pushed the lead to 60-48 after Mitch McGary dunked on a fast break.

Michigan heads to Illinois on Sunday, knowing that a win will almost certainly move them to No. 1 in next week's Associated Press poll. The Wolverines haven't held the top spot since the days of the Fab Five.

As for the Boilermakers, Purdue (10-9, 3-3) will look to bounce back against Iowa at Mackey Arena on Sunday with tip set for 3:30 ET.
