Mavericks stay strong for Beeker family

The McCutcheon football team has spent this week rallying behind teammate Jack Beeker and the entire Beeker family after the sudden passing of Tammie Beeker.

On Saturday the Mavericks got back to work and had hopes of doing whatever it took to get a win on their home field. Before Saturday's game McCutcheon honored Tammie Beeker with a moment of silence.

"Adversity like the McCutcheon family faced this week really shows our true pride and our true family that we have on the south side of the county. Really all of our teams, our teachers, our staff, community, everyone that has come together to show their support for the Beeker family during their loss. What's really been easy is just finding support right now during these difficult times and support for the Beeker family," said McCutcheon Athletic Director Ryan Walden.

It was a tough week for Head Coach Ken Frauhiger who was in charge of rallying his football team and getting them prepared to face Brownsburg. Mr. Beeker is a man that Coach Frauhiger has always admired for his work ethic.

"That is a man that I have tremendous respect for, I mean you have no idea. He works so hard here at McCutcheon and we have great kids. That is one of my sons on the football team who lost his mother this week. It's been a long week and I'm very proud of our kids and they came out today and played hard," said Ken Frauhiger.

If the start of the game was any indication as to what was in store, the Mavericks looked to be in good shape. Junior Nate Deno ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown. Maverick coaches began to cry as he crossed the goal line.

"We just had to be there, we had to be there for him. Coach Frauhiger and the speech he gave, he was in tears, you can tell how much people care for the Beeker's and just for this football team. It's just hard, you never prepare for one of your friends to go through that and it's just been a long week. We prepared for it well and I think we came out alright," said junior Nate Deno.

Up next for McCutcheon is a week two matchup at Zionsville. The Eagles knocked off week 1 opponent Lafayette Jeff on the Bronchos home field by a final score of 41-20 on Friday night.
