Mavericks reload for 2012 season

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - McCutcheon is off to a 4-3 start in a 2012 season that can be described as a transition year.

Travis Fuller takes over as head coach for the Mavericks.

McCutcheon graduated a majority of their 2011 sectional championship team.

The Mavs insist this season they are not rebuilding instead the focus is on reloading and keeping McCutcheon volleyball on the map.

“A lot of people are saying that we are rebuilding this year with all of your seniors from last year. We are not rebuilding, we are reloading and getting ready for our season. I mean that wasn't a one-time thing, McCutcheon volleyball is back on the map now and we have to keep that going. We know it's up to us,” said McCutcheon senior Aimee Hahm.

McCutcheon will try to reload with an inexperienced group: the varsity roster consists of just three seniors and one junior.

Nonetheless the Mavericks are showing the confidence of a team playing with no fear.

“We feel like we have tons of talent from the first player on our roster down to number 12. That's why we went with more of a reloading outlook, because we have very high expectations for this group of girls and I think we are going to get there; it's just a matter of how soon,” said McCutcheon head coach Travis Fuller.

Last season the Maverick volleyball team won McCutcheon’s 100 th sectional title as a school.

The defending class 4A sectional champions hope to win back to back championships in October.
