INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WLFI) - The Indianapolis Colts couldn't have scripted a better beginning to the preseason. The Colts routed the Saint Louis Rams 38-3 on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Andrew Luck made his debut with the Colts. On his first play, Luck threw a three yard pass to running back Donald Brown who went untouched for a 63 yard touchdown. Former Colts' quarterback Peyton Manning also threw a touchdown on his first play in the NFL.

“Well I was chasing him, I almost caught him," said Colts head coach Chuck Pagano. "I didn’t think I could run that fast. I was just worried about running somebody over on the sideline. We saw the coverage that we were in and (Bruce Arians) said, ‘Hey this thing could go the distance.’ Once we saw the play starting to develop, and what they were in defensively, Donnie (Donald Brown) made a fantastic play. Again, you couldn’t script out a better deal. We gave up a couple first downs but had a stop, and got out there. For that to happen, it’s a great start.”

Luck completed 10-16 for 188 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Luck's second touchdown pass came on a 23 yard strike to Austin Collie.

“He’s something special, to come in here and keep his composure like he did," said Collie. "Again it's the preseason but he did a great job.”

“To get a win, to go and get in the game and put some drives together is great," said Luck. "I realize, like all of the guys in the locker room realize, that this is a preseason game and let’s not get too excited about anything because nobody goes back and looks at the preseason record for anything. But to get out here and put some good stuff on film is definitely (good).”

The Colts' defense put on a great performance as well. They held the Rams to just three points. Outside linebacker Jerry Hughes had two sacks.

“It felt good to just kind of get the season started off well," said Hughes. Everyone went out there and executed, got better and now we need to see the film and see how we can improve in camp.”

The Colts will have Monday off and return to training camp on Tuesday at Anderson University. The Colts will play their next preseason game on August 19 at 8 pm against Pittsburgh.
