Love named freshman of week

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue women’s soccer’s Kim Love has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after going the distance at center back. Purdue gave up just one goal in the first three games of their six-game homestand.

Not only has Love started each of the first six games this season, the freshman has also yet to leave the field during game action. Fellow center back Jessica Warren has done the same.

Purdue (4-2) held Butler without a corner kick opportunity Wednesday in a frustrating 1-0 loss. The lone goal of the night was scored on a second-half penalty kick. Love then helped the Boilers post shutouts in weekend victories against Tennessee-Martin and Evansville. It was Purdue’s first set of consecutive shutouts since September 2010. Purdue allowed only 13 shots on goal in the three games.

The six-game homestand continues Friday at 7 pm versus Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
