LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) - For the first time since the 2006-2007 season the Logansport girls basketball team will play in a Regional game.
For the last three years, Logansport had its season ended by McCutcheon. This season the Berries bounced back. They Knocked off McCutcheon, Harrison, and Kokomo on their way to the Sectional title.
“Just after like all the hard work we have put in this year, just to finally know that we have accomplished our main goal. We haven't won a sectional in quite a few years and that was one of our main goals this year. It felt great to accomplish it,” said Senior Rachel Jennings.
“Coming into this year we had high expectations and the first one on our list was to win that Sectional Championship. Especially after being beat the last couple of years by McCutcheon,” said Junior Whitney Jennings.
The Berries now have their sights set on Fort Wayne Snider, the first team standing in their way at the Class 4A Kokomo Regional.
“We just have to come out ready to play, and we can't get off to a slow start. We have to start from the beginning because that's when we really do well and improve our game,” said Sophomore Nakeya Penny.
“None of us really have Regional experience, Fort Wayne Snider has been there multiple times so at times throughout the season we have had some bad halves and some really bad quarters. I think moving forward in the tournament we can't have that. We have to be on every quarter, we have to just play hard throughout the whole game,” said Rachel Jennings.
Logansport has never won a Regional and the Berries hope to make school history on Saturday.
“We have set history for our school, winning the most games in the regular season, we have won back to back NCC titles and now a sectional championship but we have never won a girls basketball regional and so to win a regional would be amazing for our team and also our community as well,” said Whitney Jennings.
Logansport and Fort Wayne Snider will play Saturday morning at 10 A.M. The Panthers are ranked 13th in the final IBCA poll while the Berries are ranked 4th.
