Lindblom traded to Rangers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Former Harrison Raider and Purdue Boilermaker pitcher Josh Lindblom was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Texas Rangers on Saturday in a three player trade.

"I'm really excited to be a part of that organization in Texas, you look at what the Rangers have done over the last couple of years of being in the World Series twice and winning the AL West, there couldn't be a better time to join their organization," said Lindblom.

In the trade the Phillies received seven-time MLB All-Star Michael Young. Minor Leaguer Lisalverto Bonilla, also a right-handed reliever, was also part of the trade.

"I guess you would call it a occupational hazard because you never know when you are going to get the call or get called up or get traded. Hopefully the opportunity to be in Texas will allow me to be there a long time," said Lindblom.

On July 31, Lindblom was traded in a deadline deal that sent Shane Victorino from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Lindblom was selected by the Dodgers in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft after pitching for Purdue in 2007 and 2008. He made his Major League debut with Los Angeles in June 2011 and has been in the Big Leagues since September of that season.

Minor Leaguer Lisalverto Bonilla, also a right-handed reliever, was also part of the Texas-Philadelphia deal Dec. 8.

Lindblom moves to the American League for the first time in his career. He joins a Rangers team that has made the playoffs in three consecutive seasons, winning 90 games each year while compiling a combined record of 279-207.

Lindblom pitched in 74 games last season, recording three wins, a save, 22 holds and 70 strikeouts in 71 innings. He has now pitched in over 100 games during his career at the Major League level.
