Jessica Valley making the most of her opportunity at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Former McCutcheon Maverick Jessica Valley is enjoying a successful sophomore campaign with Indiana State. Valley has raised her level of play from her freshman to sophomore season with the Sycamores.

Former McCutcheon standout Jessica Valley began her collegiate career last season with Indiana State. She played in 21 games but didn't make any starts. This season, the Sycamores rely heavily on Valley. She has started in 14 games and has helped lead ISU to a 10-5 record.

"It has been totally different because I went in as a guard. Last year I played as a point guard which is not my natural position and I gave it my all at that position,” said sophomore Jessica Valley. “This season they have asked me to play the four position. So, I have been down there with the posts a lot this season. It is exciting and I have developed a lot more physically and mentally at the next level,” said Valley.

Valley is averaging a little over four points per game but she has been crashing the glass more this season. Valley is pulling down almost seven rebounds a contest. She is second on the team in that category.

"They talked to me at the beginning of the season to get rebounds and be the blue collar player that I can be when I put my mind to it. So, it's rough down there playing with players that are five inches taller and 30 pounds heavier but it has worked out pretty good this season," said Valley.

Valley hopes to continue to make big contributions to the team as the Sycamores look to make a deep postseason run.
