Purdue recruit talks about transfer

2012 recruit Jay Simpson headed to LaLumiere

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - 2012 Purdue recruit Jay Simpson is headed to LaLumiere Academy to play his senior year of basketball. The 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward is from Champaign, Ill., and had played for Champaign Central. LaLumiere Academy is a prep school in Indiana.

"It's more of a fast pace. It's more like college, other than Champaign Central. I transferred out and I was like, 'Whoa.' It's fast. Everybody's strong. Everybody can jump. Everybody can do pretty much the same thing. Everybody's pretty much on the same talent level. So you have to boost your game up, bring your A game every day," said Simpson.

Simpson has been playing in team camps all summer with the Academy and is excited for his final year of basketball before arriving on campus in West Lafayette next fall.

Simpson averaged 12 points and nearly 7 rebounds as a junior and hopes to elevate his game even more this season against tougher competition.

"The decision was kind of hard to make, but it was my mom, my AAU coaches, and Purdue. So they talked about it, they brought it to me, and I liked it. Wo we just went with it," said Simpson.
