Hosts needed for Colt World Series

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The field is empty, the lines perfectly chalked and the grass is trimmed at Loeb Stadium, all in anticipation for the upcoming Colt World Series .

Colt World Series is a week long baseball tournament featuring boys 15 to 16-years-old from all around world. Housing Director Sally Curwick needs to find more than a dozen host families in just two weeks time.

"Most families host two to three boys and we need at least 15 to 20 more families. If the community could open up their homes and let these boys join their families that would be great," said Curwick.

Host families do not receive any type of compensation, just the experience. Time is the biggest commitment someone would have to make.

"As long as they have room for them. They can put air mattresses up somewhere, some place for them to sleep. They have to feed them, and then transportation to and from the games and practices," said Curwick.

As a host herself, Curwick calls it an amazing experience and said the relationships you build with the players lasts a lifetime.

"It seems crazy that in a week you would get close with them, but you do. Every single time, I cry and cry when they leave. I wouldn't have thought it when I get them on Friday, that by the next Friday, I would be so sad to see them leave," said Curwick.

There's no age limit on being a host. In order to drive the players, a person must be 21, however. Curwick said some families have been hosting for nearly 20 years.

"There's a lot of older people that are very interested that have time on their hands. They want to do it. They love housing the boys," said Curwick.

There are no geographical limitations, either. People have hosted players from Attica and Otterbein as well as other communities. Curwick adds just make sure the host can get the player to practice and games on time.
