WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Former Purdue women's golfer Maria Hernandez remains in contention for the Ricoh women's British Open Championship in Southport, England. Hernandez was the 2009 NCAA Individual National Champion during her senior year at Purdue.

For the first two rounds Hernandez has shot a 143 which is good for a 1 under par. She currently sits just 7 shots off the lead with two rounds to play. Michelle Wie is currently + 2 and three strokes behind Hernandez. The Purse for this years British Open Championship is 2.5 million dollars.
