WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue freshman A.J. Hammons played a big role in the lane on the offensive end against William & Mary on Saturday at Mackey Arena.

Hammons made 7-13 of his field goal attempts as he scored 14 points to help Purdue beat William & Mary 73-66.

Purdue's Terone Johnson led the team in scoring with 16 points. He made a couple big baskets down the stretch to help Purdue pull out the win.

"I think we did what coach said which was get the ball in the paint so we can get points in the paint or get shots from the outside," said Terone Johnson.

The Boilers also received a spark from both Jacob Lawson and Rapheal Davis. Both players provided energy by doing the little things on the court. Lawson made 3 key blocks and pulled down 4 rebounds. Davis scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds off the bench.

"If you have the mentality of a winner then you are going to do what it takes to win because in high school they needed me to score but now I'm around good players," said Davis "I just try and do the little things and come out with the win."

"I thought Rapheal Davis had a couple of really good rebounds and like I said I thought Rapheal and Jacob Lawson really gave us good energy," said Purdue head coach Matt Painter.

Purdue turned the ball over just 7 times in the win. Ronnie Johnson dished out 7 assists with just 2 turnovers.

The Boilers improve to 6-6 on the season. Purdue begins Big Ten play on January 2 against Illinois. Tip-off is set for 8:30 at Mackey Arena.
