Hammons double-double lifts Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue freshman center A.J. Hammons stuffed the stat sheet to lead the Boilermakers to a 60-42 win over Penn State on Sunday at Mackey Arena.

Hammons poured in 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks in 29 minutes. Four players reached double figures in scoring for Purdue. Ronnie Johnson had 13 points, D.J. Byrd finished with 12 points, and Rapheal Davis added 10 points.

Purdue stepped up its defense in the win as the Boilers held Penn State to 25 percent in field goal percentage for the game.

The Boilermakers improve to 8-8 on the season and 2-2 in Big Ten play. Penn State drops to 8-8 overall and 0-4 in Big Ten competition.

Purdue returns to action on January 16 at Nebraska. Tip-off is set for 9 pm.
